Regional governance plays a unique role in the optimal management of the financial, physical and human resources of the Western Province, which has the highest population density in Sri Lanka, which contributes a large percentage to the economic development of the country. Forty-nine local government institutions are functioning under the supervision of the Department of Local Government, which contribute to the social and economic development by managing the public needs identified at the grassroots level in accordance with the national and provincial vision.
Our ultimate ambition as the Western Province Local Government Department is to contribute to the performance of a strong, efficient and correct public service by formally administering public health, public utilities, public roads, entertainment, welfare and protecting and promoting all facilities in Western Province.
